Come write with me.
I’ve always lived among stories. I was raised in the Milwaukee Public Library, and later earned my B.A. in literature from Yale University, my M.F.A in Fiction from the University of Notre Dame, and my Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Having trained in both creative writing and literature, I am well prepared to help writers think about their purpose, their technique, and the way that their work reflects and transforms the world.
My first novel, Noah’s Wife, was published by Penguin Books (G.P. Putnam’s Sons) in 2016. Since then, I’ve published short pieces in journals such as Ploughshares, The New England Review, The Cincinnati Review, and The Southern Review. I’ve also spent time on the editorial board of The Notre Dame Review and The Carolina Quarterly, so I’m experienced in reading fiction with an editorial eye.
While I’ve taught in universities, directed an M.F.A. program, and published in large and small venues, I’ve found that I am most passionate about working one-on-one with writers as they find their voice and shape their stories.
I live in Minneapolis with my husband and our wise old golden retriever, Fenway. When I’m not reading, writing, teaching, or traveling, I’m usually outside: maybe kayaking in the lakes, skiing in the streets, or figuring out how to garden.
